Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that the club are planning to strengthen before the end of the January transfer window.

The Gunners suffered another setback to their title hopes yesterday as they let a 2-0 lead slip to draw 2-2 at home to Aston Villa, while Liverpool beat Brentford earlier in the day.

While it’s a bit early to be saying the title race is definitely over, it’s looking like being very difficult for Arsenal to catch Liverpool, with Arteta’s side slipping up too often recently and suffering with plenty of injuries to key players.

One thing that could turn Arsenal’s season around is a major signing up front, and Arteta has suggested after the Villa game that they are working on bringing someone in…

Fabrizio Romano has posted about Arteta’s comments above, with the Spanish tactician sending a clear message by saying he’s lacking options on the bench.

“When you look at the bench then probably, we are very short,” Arteta said after the game.

Who could Arsenal sign before the end of the January transfer window?

Unfortunately for Arsenal, it tends to be trickier getting major deals done in the middle of the season than in the summer, so it remains to be seen if they’ll be able to make the kind of game-changing deal they need.

Still, the Gunners continue to be linked with an exciting big name in the form of Benjamin Sesko, as per the Daily Mirror and others, so perhaps this story will end up going somewhere.

AFC are also being linked with Sporting Lisbon goal machine Viktor Gyokeres by L’Equipe, so that could be another exciting story to watch.

If Arsenal cannot sign either of these strikers, then a winger or wide-forward to help them cope while Saka is out injured could be another option worth seriously considering.
