Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says there is a “potential chance” Leandro Trossard (30) will be fit to feature in Sunday’s top-of-the-table Premier League meeting with Chelsea. The Belgian limped off during the Gunners’ 3-1 Champions League victory over Bayern Munich on Wednesday, sparking fears he could miss the trip to Stamford Bridge.
Trossard is due to undergo further assessment, but Arteta is cautiously optimistic. “With Leo, there is another test today. We have to see how he is feeling,” he said speaking to media. “It doesn’t look much… There is a potential chance he is available.”
Arsenal’s attacking options could receive a further boost, with Arteta confirming the club will also monitor the progress of Kai Havertz, Viktor Gyökeres and Gabriel Jesus, all of whom continue to work their way back from injury. While Havertz and Gyökeres are still awaiting scan results, Arteta insisted the outlook remains encouraging. “They are getting closer and closer. We are very positive with both of them,” he added.
There is less certainty surrounding defender Gabriel, who is also awaiting detailed scan results. Arteta remained hopeful but non-committal on a return date. “I’m quite confident… but I don’t know if he’ll be back before the end of the year. We’ll have to wait and see.”
