Mikel Vesga signs for Almería on deal to 2029 | OneFootball

UD Almería have signed Mikel Vesga on a contract to 2029 after agreeing a transfer with Athletic Club, the club said in a statement.

The Vitoria-born midfielder leaves San Mamés after 10 seasons, despite having one year left on his deal. He made 275 official appearances, winning one Copa del Rey and one Supercopa de España, and remained a fans’ favourite.

His display in the 2023-24 Copa del Rey final has already entered Athletic’s recent history. Introduced at half-time with his team behind against Mallorca, who also pursued him this summer, he steadied midfield and converted in the decisive shootout, underlining his assurance from the spot.

Vesga said in a farewell video that it had been a beautiful journey but moving on was best for everyone. At 33, he arrives with more than 250 La Liga matches behind him.

Renowned for organising play, reading tempo and late runs from deep, he adds leadership to García Pimienta’s project. Almería aspire to return to the elite as soon as possible.

Vesga has already linked up with the squad at the Marbella Football Center and is working through pre-season to adapt quickly to the head coach’s approach.
