Mikhaïlo Moudrik has appealed a four-year suspension for meldonium and is fighting to prove his innocence after nearly 18 months out.
The Ukraine international, signed by Chelsea for more than 70 M€ in January 2023, last played on 28 November 2024. According to L'Équipe, he was provisionally suspended in December 2024 after an October 2024 urine test and has now been sanctioned by the FA.
Capped 28 times with 3 goals, he has made 73 appearances for Chelsea. He continues to train alone away from club facilities as required, and in early March posted a short video striking a left-foot shot at Uxbridge FC, a seventh-tier side near his home.
Moudrik is represented by Morgan Sports Law. He was charged in June after the B sample was first analysed, and in late April the FA determined the meldonium use to be intentional. Meldonium has been prohibited by WADA since 2016.
He has said he did nothing wrong and remains hopeful of returning soon. Shakhtar Donetsk remain among his main backers, still seeking almost 30 M€ in add-ons from his transfer. He was last seen with the squad at the Conference League celebrations in late May 2025 alongside Enzo Fernandez.
His contract runs until June 2031 and a comeback remains uncertain while proceedings continue. Even with a favourable appeal, he would face heavy competition in a bolstered attack including Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Alejandro Garnacho, Jamie Gittens and Estevao.
