Mikhaïlo Moudrik’s four-year doping suspension has been lifted with immediate effect after a World Anti-Doping Agency rule change, clearing the Chelsea winger to play again. He has been out since November 2024.

The FA and Chelsea said in statements that an amendment to WADA’s technical document TD2027MRL means that, had his October 2024 sample been taken today, the meldonium concentration would not have been reported and no anti-doping rule violation recorded. The ban, issued by the FA in January, is lifted following an agreement between WADA and the FA.

Moudrik was provisionally sidelined after meldonium was found in a test, then handed a four-year suspension in January. In total, 610 days have passed since his last Chelsea appearance on 28 November 2024, a 2-0 Conference League match against Heidenheim.

He had maintained he had done nothing wrong and hoped to return soon. Living in the London suburbs, he kept himself in shape, was seen working with the ball on hired pitches near the capital, and was represented by Morgan Sports Law, which previously advised Paul Pogba.

Chelsea withheld any decision while his Court of Arbitration for Sport appeal, lodged in February, was pending. He should travel to Hong Kong on Sunday to join Xabi Alonso’s squad as pre-season preparations continue. Signed in January 2023 for €70m plus bonuses, he will now work towards reintegration.
