Milan Considering Stunning Reunion with Iconic Defender

Milan need a defender in January, and a very cost-effective way to fill such a need would be to bring back Thiago Silva, who’s still going strong in Brazil. His contract expires next June, but if he gets a good offer, he’ll be let go for a last dance in Europe, La Repubblica informs.

The Rossoneri have been discussing such a possibility internally. The 41-year-old has avoided big injuries since transferring to Fluminense and has proven that he still has it in the FIFA Club World Cup. His team eliminated Inter in the Round of 16.

Thiago Silva has a good relationship with consultant Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri. Some within the club are skeptical because of his age, but the success of the Luka Modric operation could sway them. The gaffer, who likes to have as many experienced and charismatic players as possible, would surely give his go-ahead.

The veteran had his first meaningful European stint with the Rossoneri from 2009 to 2012, totaling 119 appearances and winning one Scudetto. He then proceeded to have a long and successful spell at PSG and wrapped up his European run by spending four campaigns at Chelsea. He retired from the Brazilian national team in 2022 and returned to Fluminense two years ago.

Our Take on Milan and Thiago Silva

It wouldn’t be the worst idea since they need another steady hand who can fill in when needed and not necessarily another starter. If they don’t have the budget for a younger player good enough to eventually unseat one of their top options, they might as well do it rather than adding a different veteran who’s unfamiliar with the team and Serie A.
