Saturday’s reports claim that Milan are also looking at Bayer Leverkusen and former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka as an alternative option to Adrien Rabiot in the summer transfer window.

The Rossoneri are looking to strengthen their midfield options heading into the 2025-26 season, and have been linked with a move for former Juventus midfielder Rabiot, who is particularly well known to the new Milan head coach, Massimiliano Allegri.

However, according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, there is another name at the top of Milan’s midfield wishlist this summer in the form of Leverkusen’s Xhaka.

The 32-year-old still has plenty of time to run on his current contract in the Bundesliga, which is not due to expire until the summer of 2028.

However, given the player’s age, and the fact that Leverkusen are set for a major reshuffle following the departures of head coach Xabi Alosno and star wing-back Jeremie Frimpong, Xhaka could be allowed to leave if an appropriate offer comes in.

La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that an offer of around €15m could be enough to convince Leverkusen into selling, and that a deal should cost no more than €20m all things considered.

The player also earns what has been described as a ‘sustainable’ salary, in the region of €2m-€2.5m per season.
