Milan in no rush over decision making as Glasner remains favourite

Milan remain without a coach, sporting director or any clear leadership structure more than two weeks after their wholesale management clearout, with Gerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimovic deliberately taking their time, even as the summer transfer window approaches and players grow increasingly restless.

According to Goal.com, the mantra within the club’s ownership is that it is better to lose an extra week than to make the wrong appointment.

Supporters, however, have run out of patience, with protest banners appearing around Milan and the Curva Sud announcing a fierce demonstration against the current ownership.

On the coaching front, Oliver Glasner remains the frontrunner.

The Austrian, fresh from winning the Conference League with Crystal Palace, is the preferred candidate of Cardinale, though Ibrahimovic is less convinced.

The Swede had pushed hard for Arne Slot following his Liverpool departure, but the Dutchman appears destined to remain out of reach. Mauricio Pochettino and Matthias Jaissle remain in the running but are considered less likely options.

Leao, Maignan and Rabiot futures all uncertain as Milan’s transfer window stands still

The leadership vacuum is having immediate consequences in the market.

A deal for free agent Leon Goretzka, one of Allegri’s key requests, has effectively collapsed following the coach’s dismissal and Milan’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Lazio defender Mario Gila, another Allegri target, is now expected to join Napoli instead.

Among the playing squad, uncertainty is spreading.

Leao has publicly pushed for a Premier League or La Liga exit. Modric may retire after the World Cup. Maignan, who had been convinced to renew by Allegri and Tare, may now reconsider.

Rabiot is reportedly expected to follow Allegri to Napoli. Pre-season preparations are also in limbo, the start date Allegri had fixed for 12 July may yet change, though Milan face Celtic on 25 July before heading to Australia for a friendly derby against Inter.
