Milan are still taking their time to evaluate their options for a new sporting director, despite former Lazio executive Igli Tare being dubbed the ‘frontrunner’ earlier in the week, as reports on Friday suggest that the preferences of the Rossoneri management are not currently unanimous.

Milan are looking to appoint a new sporting director ahead of the 2025-26 season. They had been close to appointing former Juventus director Fabio Paratici, but later dropped him due to legal complications.

Since then, there have been a number of different names in the mix, including Tare, Atalanta’s Tony D’Amico, Napoli’s Giovanni Manna and Bologna’s Giovanni Sartori.

Why Atalanta match could impact Milan’s sporting director search

Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani met with Tare in Rome on Tuesday and spent several hours discussing the Rossoneri project with the Albanian, but there is still no agreement over his appointment, with a new meeting expected to take place in the near future.

However, reports from Tuttosport (via Milannews.it) on Friday suggest that Furlani is still keen on the idea of appointing Atalanta director D’Amico, who is still tied to a contract in Bergamo that runs until the summer of 2027.

Coincidentally, Milan are hosting Atalanta in San Siro in the 33rd round of Serie A fixtures coming up this weekend, where it is possible that the job will be discussed further among the relevant parties.
