Milan have earmarked Santiago Castro amid their wide-ranging search for a new striker. The Argentine is particularly appreciated by Massimiliano Allegri for his skill set and temperament. His age and upside could also cater to the management, Corriere dello Sport reports.
The marksman has shown steady improvement since arriving in Italy, initially as Joshua Zirkzee’s backup. He has already accumulated significant experience in Europe, since the Felsinei have participated in the two top continental competitions in recent campaigns.
On the other hand, Milan would have to empty their coffers for Castro. The Rossoblù plan to keep him and could eventually sit at the table only for offers north of €40M. Bologna bid adieu to Ciro Immobile in January and would rather sell Thijs Dallinga next, continuing to build around the 21-year-old.
Still, nobody is truly untouchable with the right bid. The Rossoneri would have a chance if they were willing to splurge. The center-forward has scored 11 times and provided 4 assists in 39 matches this year. He’s one goal shy of his personal best in Serie A play.
Massimiliano Allegri surely wouldn’t mind bringing in somebody with Serie A experience, and the brass might greenlight an investment in a youngster, although not that big. The Argentine has intriguing traits and would be particularly well-suited to their style, as he interplays well with his teammates and is dangerous on counters. Though, he has yet to make the final leap as a goal poacher, which is what they need the most. He’ll likely stay put for a couple more years. Bologna have generally sold their players to the Premier League to obtain the highest possible sums.
