Chelsea captain and England defender Millie Bright has retired from football at 32, remaining with the club as an ambassador and Chelsea Foundation board member.
She has been sidelined since a February injury and confirmed the decision on Wednesday. The club said in a statement that everyone at Chelsea is extremely proud of her contribution during an unprecedented period of growth in the women’s game and that they look forward to continuing to work with her off the pitch.
Representing Chelsea over the past 12 years has meant everything to her, and she feels ready to hang up her boots. She believes she has given all she could and never wished to fight for any other badge, and feels the time is right to enter a new era.
She joined Chelsea in 2015 and holds the club record for appearances, with 314. Across that span she won 20 trophies, including eight league titles.
With England, she won the 2022 European Championship and was a 2023 World Cup runner-up, earning 88 caps. She had already stepped away from international duty in June 2025.
