In the middle of the decisive phase of the season, FC Bayern is already looking to the future – and has come across a curious detail from the past. As has now been revealed, the Munich club is planning a test match against RB Leipzig, which at first glance seems surprising. The background leads back to the summer of 2021 and Julian Nagelsmann’s transfer to Säbener Straße
Back then, the two clubs not only agreed on a transfer fee of up to €25 million, but also on an additional test match. The income from this was to flow in part to Leipzig as further compensation. Almost five years later, this agreement could now finally be implemented, as reported by BILD
The match is currently scheduled for mid-August – at a time when the teams are actually preparing for the new season. Particularly explosive: it would be a clash between two direct Bundesliga rivals shortly before the start of the league
The fact that such a match has not yet taken place was mainly due to scheduling difficulties. There have been repeated talks about making it happen, but no concrete progress has been made for a long time. Now the talks seem to be getting more concrete again, even if final details such as the date, venue and distribution of proceeds still need to be clarified

Should the match actually go ahead, it would be part of an already packed summer for FC Bayern. The tour of Asia at the beginning of August, during which the Munich team will play in South Korea and Hong Kong, among other places, is already fixed
The European Super Cup could also be on the agenda in the event of a Champions League triumph, while participation in the German Super Cup in August is almost certain due to the strong Bundesliga season
This would result in a tightly timed preparation schedule for Bayern – including a special match that is not so much for sporting reasons, but rather closes a late chapter in one of the most spectacular coaching transfers in recent Bundesliga history.
