Millwall signed defender Caleb Taylor from West Bromwich Albion this summer and has excelled at The Den

Millwall are heading into the play-offs after securing a 3rd place finish in the Championship, and will be confident of their chances of finally securing Premier League football for the first time.

A 2-0 victory over already-relegated Oxford United on the final day of the season was not enough to see Millwall claim a spot in the Championship top two, with the Lions' route to the Premier League now blocked by the play-offs.

Alex Neil's side will face Hull City over two legs for a place at Wembley and a shot of finally making their way into the Premier League for the first time in its history, where they will face either Middlesbrough or Southampton in the capital if they are successful in toppling the Tigers.

Just one point and an inferior goal difference has separated the Lions from Ipswich Town in 2nd, but heading into the games against Hull, they will have the utmost confidence of coming out victorious.

With Femi Azeez, Mihailo Ivanovic, Camiel Neghli, and Josh Coburn in attack, they should have enough firepower to earn their place at Wembley, but will need their defence to continue to stand firm, just as they have done all season.

Tristan Crama, Jake Cooper, and Caleb Taylor, in particular, have been rock-solid for Neil's side this year, with Taylor's arrival in the summer from West Bromwich Albion proving to be an inspired addition, and one the Baggies will almost certainly regret.

23-year-old Caleb Taylor joined Millwall in the summer to reinforce the Lions' defence after the departure of Japhet Tanganga to Sheffield United, and the Englishman has excelled in his first year in Southwark.

Jake Cooper and Tristan Crama were initially Neil's favoured pairing in the heart of defence towards the beginning of the campaign, but as Crama moved wider to right-back, Taylor stepped in and hasn't looked back since.

Signed for just £2.5 million from division rivals West Brom, Taylor has made 28 league appearances for Millwall thus far, having become a mainstay in the side since he was first given his opportunity, and only missing a handful of games thereafter due to injury.

The centre-back has formed an excellent partnership with Cooper in the heart of Millwall's defence, and has even helped to chip in with important goals against both Southampton and Swansea City.

As Taylor prepares for the play-off with Millwall, meanwhile, his former side, West Brom, have been embroiled in a relegation battle for the majority of the season, and though they eventually survived at the expense of Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester City, and Oxford United, the Baggies certainly haven't been better off without him.

Still only 23, Taylor has ample time to continue to develop and improve on his game, and could well be playing Premier League football next season, as West Brom will almost certainly regret their decision to sell the defender for as little as they did.

Taylor missed Millwall's final two games of the season, a 1-1 draw away to Leicester City, and their 2-0 home win over Oxford, with manager Neil citing his absence as a foot issue.

It's unclear at this stage whether he will be fit enough for when Millwall take on Hull in the play-offs, but those around the club will be praying he is able to pass the fitness test and be available for selection.

If Millwall can field their go-to back four of Zak Sturge, Jake Cooper, Caleb Taylor, and Tristan Crama, then that would be the perfect scenario for the Lions.

Though, at this stage, whether that will be the case remains to be seen.

West Brom will be scratching their heads wondering why they let go of Taylor when they did, as Millwall will be laughing to the bank.
