Alex Neil’s side missed out on automatic promotion by just one point, coming third behind Ipswich Town, before losing to Hull City in the semi-finals of the play-offs.

The south London outfit will be hoping to keep their squad together over the summer, along with a few additions, in order to maintain a competitive level.

It could be a busy few months ahead for the Lions, who will learn their opening opponent of the new campaign on Thursday morning.

Millwall haven’t competed in the top flight since 1990, but there will be optimism among supporters that they can be in the mix again next season, and they will be buoyed by the fact the play-offs are also expanding to include two more teams from the next campaign.

Alex Neil is closing in on a significant summer signing for Millwall, as it has been reported by French outlet Le Parisien that the Lions are closing in on their second arrival of the window.

It’s believed that Taïryk Arconte is set for a switch to The Den from Ligue 2 side Rodez AF.

While he initially joined Rodez in 2023 on loan, he signed for the French club on a permanent basis in 2025, where he cemented himself as a key part of the side.

The 22-year-old contributed with 14 goals and three assists to help Rodez finish fifth in the second tier in France in 2025-26, and now he's set for a big move to England.

It’s understood that a fee in the region of €3 million (£2.6 million) has been agreed by the two clubs, with a medical already underway for the Guadeloupe international.

Neil has moved quickly to bolster his forward line for next season, with Arconte earning a lot of plaudits for his performances in Ligue 2, and he's set to join the likes of Josh Coburn and Mihailo Ivanovic in South Bermondsey.

Millwall aren’t resting on their laurels after an impressive Championship campaign, as this seven-figure move for Arconte shows they mean business this summer.

The Lions have made early moves in the transfer market, and they look like a club ready for another promotion push next year.

If Arconte can translate his success in France to English football, then this could prove a smashing signing for the London outfit, but there's no guarantee that he will be able to do just that.

Another player on top of the likes of the aforementioned Coburn and Ivanovic who is capable of leading the line and scoring consistently will keep them in promotion contention, especially if they can also hold onto Azeez, although that too will not be a guarantee just yet after his spell-binding 2025-26 season.
