Harry Amass is a wanted man after his strong performances at Hillsborough

Millwall and Stoke City are reportedly among a clutch of clubs monitoring the transfer situation of Harry Amass, who is currently on loan at fellow Championship outfit, Sheffield Wednesday from Manchester United.

That is according to the Daily Mail, with the Red Devils academy prospect certainly generating plenty of headlines at present due to the conditions of his current loan stint with the second tier's bottom side, as well as recent comments made by his head coach at Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim.

The Owls were unable to conduct anywhere near as much transfer business throughout the previous summer transfer window - the first of Henrik Pedersen's tenure as the main frontman in the Hillsborough dugout - amid a raft of transfer and registration related embargoes and restrictions imposed on the club by the EFL due to the well-documented saga which unfolded in the Steel City throughout the final weeks and months of Dejphon Chansiri's controversial 10-year ownership.

Takeover talk has, unsurprisingly, dominated the headlines in South Yorkshire after Wednesday were placed into administration in late October, subsequently being punished with an automatic 12-point deduction which saw them return to the foot of the Championship table, before being docked six further points on December 1st after several instances of delayed wage payments and further non-payments.

Pedersen's side have won just one of their 21 games thus far - against Portsmouth on September 20th at Fratton Park - and are currently 29 points from safety with 25 league games remaining.

With relegation to League One effectively rubber-stamped, plenty of questions have been raised as to what the immediate future holds for Amass, who has emerged with real credit from Pedersen, Wednesday supporters and an array of pundits for his performances at left-wing-back.

Unsurprisingly, given a severe lack of depth, the Dane is hopeful of seeing him stay in S6. However, they could be dealt a huge blow in those aims by one of their divisional counterparts.

As previously mentioned, the Owls were extremely hamstrung in relation to the business they were able to conduct after financial uncertainty led to a sudden mass exodus of senior players and former boss, Danny Rohl, in the lead-up to the beginning of the current campaign.

An injury to first-choice goalkeeper, Pierce Charles, forced Wednesday to source a loan replacement in the form of Cardiff City shot-stopper, Ethan Horvath, who agreed a temporary deal until January.

Indeed, Amass was the second and last incoming in the parameters of the summer window. The 18-year-old London-born defender would see his first loan stint away from the Red Devils confirmed on Deadline Day, before it emerged that the Premier League giants had struck an agreement in which they are compensating for every aspect of the initial short-term loan due to the currently dire financial situation Wednesday find themselves in.

After making an initial breakthrough into Amorim's first-team plans in the latter stages of the Premier League campaign last term, which also included minutes in United's run to the UEFA Europa League final, Amass has performed admirably for the Championship side, scoring a well-taken goal - the first of his senior career - in the 3-1 defeat to Southampton on November 8th, before providing Charlie McNeill with one of his two strikes in the 3-2 loss to Preston North End three weeks later.

Pedersen initially stated that both clubs were happy with the England youth international's progress, and that he hoped to extend the loan spell amid talks relating to United's end of the bargain.

However, whilst Amass has attracted plenty of interest, Amorim sparked plenty of controversy by using the term "struggling" in relation to the wing-back's loan stint, even though he was voted as the Owls' Player of the Month for November.

It has since been clarified that this was in relation to Wednesday's position at the foot of the table, whilst Millwall and Stoke have now emerged as two sides that have made inquiries over Amass' availability in the winter transfer window, whilst around 12 clubs in total are said to have taken such a course of action.

At present, Millwall and Stoke are firmly in the play-off race, meaning Amass would be facing a different kind of pressure altogether, but one which would also be beneficial to his long-term development.

The Lions currently have Chelsea loanee Zak Sturge and Joe Bryan as natural options at left-back, whilst summer signing, Alfie Doughty, is also able to fulfill such a role having done so on a regular basis for former club, Luton Town.

Meanwhile, it perhaps isn't the greatest of surprises that the Potters are looking at potential options in this department, particularly with manager, Mark Robins, having strong connections to the Red Devils.

Aaron Cresswell has proven to be a shrewd signing on a free transfer following his exit from West Ham United, but the Staffordshire side could be light on depth amid recent talk that Eric Bocat has emerged as a transfer target for Belgian Pro League club, Standard Liege.

A potential loss would be a huge blow for Wednesday, regardless of the fact the club are resigned to League One football next term. However, it is clear that developments regarding Amass are beyond their control.
