Paul Heckingbottom’s side were in the mix for a play-off place in the first half of the previous campaign, but they eventually fell to 14th in the table.

The Lilywhites were 13 points adrift of the top six, so will need to use this summer to bridge the gap to the top teams.

The play-offs will expand to include two more teams from 2026/27, giving the Lancashire outfit a better chance at being able to fight for a top flight return.

Preston have added Alfie Devine on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur after he spent last season at Deepdale on loan.

The club have also signed Lee Nicholls from Huddersfield Town, and Jusef Erabi has arrived on loan from Genk.

It has been reported by Alan Nixon that Milutin Osmajic is currently still training with the Preston first team squad despite speculation over his future.

It’s been claimed that the striker is attracting interest from Turkey, particularly Samsunspor, but he is currently with Heckingbottom’s side as part of pre-season.

It’s believed that he will play in their upcoming friendly against Cambridge, with suggestions that he has flown out to Spain to facilitate a move understood to be wide of the mark.

Osmajic’s contract is set to expire in June 2027, which has fuelled the uncertainty over his future, as he could become a free agent at the end of next season.

The 26-year-old contributed eight goals and one assist from 28 appearances in the Championship last season, but his time at Deepdale has been mired by discipline issues, including a nine-game ban for being found guilty of racially abusing an opposition player.

How Preston North End fans feel about Milutin Osmajic’s future

Preston fans have accepted that Osmajic’s future possibly lies away from Preston, and have suggested that his market value is likely capped around the €4 (£3.4) million mark.

The Championship club have been told to sign Johnny Kenny as a potential replacement, with Daniel Jebbison also mentioned as an option.

Ultimately, the consensus among supporters is that the Lilywhites should look to cash in on the striker this summer if an offer arrives.

Preston begin their campaign away to Bolton Wanderers on 15 August.

Time has come to cash in on Milutin Osmajic

Osmajic’s contract is expiring in the next 12 months, so Preston are in a position where it makes the most sense to sell the player if an offer arrives.

The forward has shown that he can contribute goals at this level, but his discipline issues make him a liability that’s no longer worth it.

If they can get a few million from his sale, then that could help generate the funds to find a replacement, such as Kenny.

While he is still with the team as part of pre-season, there is plenty of time remaining in the window to find an acceptable deal to move on Osmajic, which would be best for both parties at this stage.
