Borussia Dortmund claimed victory on Sunday against Heidenheim (3-2) on Matchday 20 of the Bundesliga, narrowing the gap with leaders Bayern Munich to just six points.
Waldemar Anton opened the scoring for the Black and Yellows in the 44th minute, before Julian Niehues turned the match on its head with two quickfire goals (45+5', 48'). But Dortmund responded immediately: Serhou Guirassy leveled from the penalty spot in the 68th minute, then netted the winner just a minute later (69').
The major talking point of the match came in the closing minutes. Guirassy earned a second penalty and attempted a Panenka. The ball sailed over the crossbar, sparking surprise and controversy.
At the final whistle, the Guinea international was clear at the media microphones: "I missed one. Penalties are over for me now."
For his part, coach Niko Kovač made no secret of his frustration in the post-match press conference. He said the match context did not warrant such an attempt, implicitly reminding everyone that Emre Can is Borussia Dortmund's first-choice penalty taker.
A few hours later, Guirassy posted an apology on X with the following message: "Alhamdulillah, we won. It wasn't the right time to take that penalty like that and put the team under pressure. I'm sorry. Alhamdulillah, we won."
