MK Dons thrashed Gillingham 5-1 in League Two last night to become just the second club in the top four tiers to score more than 70 goals this season.

Championship leaders Coventry City were the first team to hit the 70-goal mark when Jack Rudoni levelled the scoring for the Sky Blues in the 2-1 win away to Sheffield United last month. Frank Lampard's team are now up to 74 league goals for the season.

Last night, the Dons' big victory put their total up to 72 goals, with Marvin Ekpiteta bagging what turned out to be goal number 70 before Ben Wiles and latter Liam Kelly added to that tally.

Paul Warne's side are by some margin the fourth tier's top scorers with top-of-the-league Bromley and Swindon Town the only other teams that come close having both netted 59 times each.

Elsewhere in the EFL, League One Cardiff City look most likely to be the third team to hit 70 league goals this season with the Bluebirds sitting on 69 goals this season ahead of their game away to Exeter City.

Other teams close to that number are Lincoln City (66) and Ipswich Town (64) but they're still some way off the free-scoring Dons.

The Buckinghamshire side will be hoping to add to their tally when they face a tricky tie away to Swindon Town in the Dons' bid to return to League One.
