Major League Soccer has become a favoured destination for footballers moving on from Europe, a path once trodden by Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Beckham.
Diario Vasco notes that strong salaries and a high quality of life have made the American league an attractive option, with several recent departures from La Liga.
The latest are Robert Lewandowski and Antoine Griezmann. The French forward will play next season for Orlando City, where Kaká and Nani previously featured. The Polish striker has opted for Chicago Fire, the club where Bastian Schweinsteiger retired.
Asier Illarramendi left Real Sociedad when his deal expired in summer 2023, then joined FC Dallas and helped the team reach the play-offs.
Not everyone heading to MLS is nearing retirement. Riqui Puig departed Barcelona for Los Angeles Galaxy at 23. Last season Sergio Reguilón, after winning the Europa League with Tottenham, moved to Inter Miami of Messi, Suárez, Alba, Busquets and DePaul.
The Florida club’s most recent addition has been Casemiro, a five-time Champions League winner.
Brais in Columbus will reunite with a familiar LaLiga face, André Gomes, who arrived in the winter window after terminating his Lille contract. The Mos-born midfielder is set to be the next playmaker to land in MLS, and he will not be alone.
