Mo Salah may have played his final game for Liverpool after being forced out of Saturday’s encounter with Crystal Palace at Anfield.
The Egyptian winger dropped to the floor in the second half of the match clutching his left hamstring.
The injury forced Arne Slot into a change as Jeremie Frimpong replaced the 33-year-old in the 59th minute.
With only a month of the season remaining, Salah could struggle to recover in time to play another match in the Premier League, ending his Liverpool career prematurely.
The former Chelsea player announced in March that he will be leaving the club in the summer, bringing to an end a glittering nine-year spell with the Merseyside outfit.
It’s the latest injury setback to hit Liverpool this month after Hugo Ekitike ruptured his Achilles tendon while playing against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League. He is expected to be sidelined for between six to nine months after undergoing surgery.
Liverpool can take some solace from the fact they beat Palace 3-1 to enhance their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. The win takes them above Aston Villa into fourth place in the Premier League table after the Villans lost 1-0 to Fulham earlier in the day.
The Reds have four games still to play to secure a top five finish; Manchester United away, Chelsea at home, Villa away and Brentford at home on the final day. There is an eight-point cushion between them and Brighton in sixth.
