Mohamed Salah left Liverpool at the end of June.

The Egyptian King, 34, reached an agreement to rip up his £400k per week deal one year early. Having fallen out with club bosses - including head coach Arne Slot - Salah decided to find a new home.

Since then he has been heavily linked with Besiktas. The Turkish giants put together an attractive package in order to lure the two-time African footballer of the year to Istanbul.

A contract worth around €20m per season - including bonuses - was drawn up.

Salah to Besiktas falls apart

But the offer did not make it past the player’s representative Ramy Abbas - whose excessive demands are reported to have held up the deal.

Besiktas brought a halt to negotiations earlier this week - with the club unwilling to stretch themselves any further from a financial standpoint. It left Salah in a tough position just a few weeks out from the beginning of the season.

Suddenly however it appears that a deal is close on terms very favourable to Salah and his camp.

Al-Ittihad swoop for Salah deal

With Besiktas now out of the frame Sabah in Turkey is reporting that Al-Ittihad have swooped in to conclude a deal with the Pharaoh.

The Saudi Pro League side first tried for Salah back in 2023 - offering Liverpool £150m and a blockbuster salary for the attacker. Now it looks as though they have finally got their man - with a contract worth $25m (£21m) agreed for the 2026/27 season.

Salah wins £21m per year contract in Saudi Arabia

“Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad has offered Salah a yearly salary of $25 million,” the report reads.

“It has been learned that the player accepted the offer and the signing of the contract is imminent.”

That is roughly the same amount as Salah was earning at Liverpool in his final season but of course the tax situation will be far more attractive.

Other sides in the running for Sala included San Diego FC and Sporting Kansas City in MLS as well as Fenerbahce in Turkey. Teams in Italy - said to include Roma and Juventus - were also interested but their attempts amounted to nothing over the cost of the deal.

Salah signs off at Anfield as a two-time Premier League winner, a Champions League winner and a recipient of a host of other individual honours.
