Mohamed Salah was withdrawn in the second half of Egypt’s 1-1 draw with Iran at the World Cup on Friday, appearing to have a hamstring issue that casts doubt over his involvement in the last 32.

L'Équipe notes that there were immediate concerns over his condition. Salah, the soon-to-be former Liverpool forward, was replaced by Ahmed Sayed Zizo in the 56th minute, then, after an embrace from head coach Hossam Hassan, took a seat on the bench.

A member of the Pharaohs’ staff immediately attended to him, seemingly bandaging his thigh.

It was difficult to know more before the final whistle, and only if an injury is confirmed will the extent be known. Any setback would be a major blow for a nation for whom Salah is the idol.

Egypt are already through to the last 32, although their next opponents are yet to be determined.
