Morocco’s king Mohammed VI has granted a royal pardon to Senegalese supporters convicted over disturbances at the 2025 AFCON final in Rabat. The royal cabinet said in a statement that the decision, announced for Eid al-Adha, was taken on humanitarian grounds and underlined the countries’ centuries-old fraternal ties.

The final was played in Rabat on 18 January. Senegal won 1-0 after extra time on the pitch against Morocco.

In total, 18 supporters received sentences ranging from three months to one year for hooliganism, damage to sporting equipment, pitch invasion and throwing projectiles following the match.

Some had already served their terms, including three who were released several weeks ago after three months in prison.

Two months after the final, the Confederation of African Football awarded the victory to Morocco.
