Lille earned a valuable 1-0 win at Monaco on Sunday, with Thomas Meunier outstanding down the right and central to the decisive moment. Alexandre Golovine, by contrast, rarely troubled the visitors.

According to L'Équipe, Meunier led the ratings with an 8, mixing invention and bite, and making nine recoveries. Aïssa Mandi set the tone with an early stop on Simon Adingra on 12 minutes, then Meunier’s outside-of-the-boot pass freed Ayyoub Bouaddi for a tight-angle shot on 15 minutes after his 13th-minute cross.

Bouaddi’s poor pass on 39 minutes nearly let Maghnes Akliouche in. Meunier’s quick throw threatened Fernandez-Pardo on 42 minutes.

At half-time, Bouaddi was replaced by Bentaleb. Romain Perraud shot over on 50 minutes, Meunier produced a vital recovery on Folarin Balogun on 57 minutes, and Perraud crossed dangerously on 61 minutes. Ngal'ayel Mukau then made way for Ethan Mbappé on 62 minutes, before Perraud’s saving tackle on Akliouche on 67 minutes.

The winner arrived on 72 minutes when Lamine Camara’s ill-judged back-pass for Kehrer went awry, Lille regained possession and Meunier’s surge forced Zakaria to put into his own net.

Perraud went off for Alexsandro on 90 minutes, and a minute later Balogun chose to pass rather than shoot after twice going down without a penalty. Golovine seldom found space between the lines, and Adingra was largely contained by Meunier.
