AS Monaco chief executive Thiago Scuro has confirmed the club plans to sell Folarin Balogun in the winter transfer window.

Balogun came close to joining Everton on summer deadline day before he walked away from the transfer at the eleventh hour.

Monaco had made certain financial promises to France’s football watchdog over player sales to balance their books.

Balogun’s failed move to the Premier League means they are in a precarious position.

The Ligue 1 club now intend to resolve the situation during the winter window by offloading the 25-year-old.

Speaking to RMC Sport, Scuro laid out the club’s transfer strategy.

He said: “The original plan is to find a solution for Balogun. If we find that, it will give Monaco the opportunity to keep Lamine [Camara] and [Aleksandr] Golovin until the end of the season.

“That is the ideal plan, but we can’t control the decisions and what will happen in the winter.

Balogun was poised to join Everton after they agreed a deal worth £40 million with Monaco.

The transfer ultimately fell through after an issue was identified in the player’s medical.

The Toffees negotiated a lower fee for the United States star, but he walked away from the move.

Balogun was unhappy over how Everton had treated him and decided to stay at Monaco.

The unsuccessful move left them with only one recognised striker in Thierno Barry. They sold Beto to Fiorentina.

Everton have made a positive start to the new season despite their lack of attacking options, picking up six points from four games to sit in the top half of the Premier League table.
