Álex Calatrava’s exit from CD Castellón appears close after Monchi said Espanyol’s move is very advanced.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the sporting director added it would not be a surprise if, as soon as tomorrow, he were to say Calatrava is an Espanyol player.
Castellón are well aware of the situation. Espanyol’s interest is longstanding, and Monchi noted cordial relations between the clubs with talks progressing as expected.
From the first of July, the player’s release clause is understood to drop from 10 to five million euros, a contractual provision that would greatly ease the transfer.
The Catalan arrived from Atlético de Madrid B via Primera RFEF and has become a key figure. He scored 15 goals last season, with 21 goals and 19 assists across two years with Castellón.
Other Primera División clubs have also tracked his progress. A sale at five million euros would comfortably surpass the club’s record fee, with Daijiro Chirino’s move to Almería last summer worth two million.
