Monza Round Out Trio of Teams Returning to Serie A

Three familiar faces will be back in Serie A after short stints in the second division, as three of the favorites, Venezia, Frosinone, and Monza, earned promotion.

The Lagunari and the Ciociari battled for first place all year long and avoided the playoffs. The former edged out the competitors by a single point. They chose a specialist on the bench, Giovanni Stroppa. They are back in the top flight after just one season since they were relegated in 2024/2025. The same goes for the Brianzoli.

While Venezia and Monza were always considered frontrunners, Frosinone earned such a status throughout the campaign thanks to their effervescent playing style and consistent results. They quickly redeemed themselves after having to fight to avoid back-to-back relegations. They exceeded expectations after turning to Massimiliano Alvini. The boss is set for his second Serie A stint after a poor one with Cremonese, as he lasted only 18 games in 2023.

The Biancorossi missed out on a top-two finish but came through in the postseason, holding serve against both Juve Stabia and Catanzaro, although just barely in the final. They are no longer controlled by the Berlusconi family, which sold the team to the American fund Beckett Layne Ventures last July. They are coached by Paolo Bianco, who assisted Roberto De Zerbi in Ukraine and Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus before branching out on his own.

Venezia, Frosinone, and Monza are replacing Cremonese and Pisa, which lasted just one season in Serie A, and Hellas Verona, which are going down following a seven-year stay. The Arancioneroverdi have already started making moves in the transfer market and have signed Toma Basic, formerly of Lazio, on a free transfer.
