Morgan Cross: It doesn't get much better than scoring cup-winning goal

It really was the stuff of dreams at Hampden today (Sunday), so far as Morgan Cross was concerned, as she scored the winning goal in a Scottish Cup Final against Rangers to deliver the trophy back to Paradise.

The Celtic attacker showed great striking instincts inside the area to pounce on a Saoirse Noonan cross and steer the ball into the Rangers net to give her side a first-half lead.

And ultimately that proved to be enough to win the Cup for Celtic, who also had to play for much of the second-half with 10 players following Emma Lawton’s dismissal.

But it was a battling performance which ultimately saw Grant Scott’s side triumph.

And having also beaten Hearts, Hibernian and Glasgow City on the way to the final, Morgan Cross is in no doubt that Celtic deserved to win the Scottish Cup.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the game, the Hampden goalscorer said: “It doesn’t get much better than that so I’m delighted, and delighted for our team because we’ve deserved this.

“I just saw Saoirse breaking and I gambled on being in the right place and just getting anything on it, and it’s rolled in. I don’t think I can describe how that felt. It was just unbelievable.

“I knew I would get nowhere near 90 minutes, and I was just aiming for 45 and see where we went from there, but I just gave absolutely everything I could.

“The girls who came on today were exceptional and gave us real energy when we needed it so it was a real team effort today.

“The split has not gone the way we wanted it to, but to end the season here on a high makes it worth it.”
