There has been some updates out today via The Athletic that most Chelsea fans will really not like, at least the majority of them.

The Blues came from a goal down to score two very late goals to win the game 2-1 against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon in what was a very dramatic game of ups and downs. But for 80 minutes, it was a lot of downs for Chelsea and the woes were continuing. Thankfully, they managed to get two late goals from individual brilliance to win the game.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea eye move for Kevin De Bruyne!

Still, manager Enzo Maresca did not celebrate the Chelsea win over with the away fans like all the players did at the end of the game, which was very odd. But he has explained his reasoning for this in the post match press conference, although it wont wash.

The fans were furious throughout most of the game though and certainly let the manager and the players know this at half time and throughout the game. Pedro Neto responded to the fan anger in his post-match comments after the game on Sunday.

The Athletic have a big article out today on Chelsea, the sporting directors, and manager Enzo Maresca, and for fans who are unhappy with all three of them right now, and there are many, it wont be a good read.

Chelsea sticking with what they’ve got

The Athletic report that sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart were appointed to build out an organisation across all departments of the club, not just sign and sell footballers and select head coaches.

There are no indications that their positions are in any danger. In fact, The Athletic say that they are consistently told that Winstanley and Stewart are going nowhere, and there is no plan to bring in Luis Campos or anyone else above them in Chelsea’s sporting structure.

And on Maresca, they say that Chelsea showed their intent by giving Maresca a five-year contract in June. This was a much greater show of faith in the Italian than the deal presented to Mauricio Pochettino in 2023 — he was handed a two-year contract with the option for a further 12 months.

Even if Chelsea do not end up in the Champions League, it is not the only barometer on how Maresca’s first season will be judged apparently.
