Mostafa Mohamed has skipped all FC Nantes training since 24 June and does not want to play in Ligue 2, straining relations.
According to L'Équipe, the rest of Nantes’ summer appears orderly, with Michel Der Zakarian back and a 5-0 win over Fleury in their friendly.
The 28-year-old, now in his fourth season, has not appeared at La Jonelière since day one. Der Zakarian said on Thursday the club do not know his whereabouts, that calls often go unanswered, and that if he will not train he should stay at home, adding the player is at fault.
His whereabouts are unclear. Instagram showed him in Cape Verde in late June, and calls and texts since have drawn no reply. The Egypt international, left out of the last World Cup, has 29 goals in 136 Nantes games and had targeted Europe before relegation in the spring.
Sanctions have begun, with daily letters telling him he will not be paid. The Kita family have not seen anything like this in 20 years, and while president Waldemar admires his profile, patience is thin.
Nantes do not intend to let a €6.5m signing from Galatasaray leave for free. With one year left, they have set no asking price and have received no offers.
After a poor season, he would not be missed by many supporters, and his image has suffered since he refused to join anti-homophobia matchdays. Mohamed could not be reached. Should he reappear, a spell with the reserves in N2 awaits.
