Mouctar Diakhaby trained with the ball for the first time today at Paterna. It is a step in his comeback from January surgery, with his Valencia future under scrutiny.
According to AS, Valencia deregistered the centre-back for the rest of the season after a serious right hamstring injury that required surgery. He is one of the highest earners, his deal runs to summer 2027, and the club are seeking to move him on given his salary and output.
The latest setback arrived on 3 January at Balaídos during a match against Celta. Up to that point he had featured in eight games, having already missed two months with a muscle problem.
Injuries have plagued his time at Mestalla since his arrival in summer 2018, and he has never played more than 30 matches in a season. After a severe knee injury in March 2024 that almost made him quit, he felt like a footballer again in January 2025 and made 13 appearances under Carlos Corberán.
He continues his rehabilitation and, if nothing changes and everything progresses favourably, he should be able to take part in pre-season with the group. That would give him a chance to show he can still compete at professional level.
