Mouctar Diakhaby has taken a step forward in his recovery from a serious hamstring injury, though his season remains over. The 29-year-old centre-back underwent surgery and has missed the campaign.
El Chiringuito reported that he worked with the ball during Corberán’s training session on Tuesday. With this season already written off, the focus is on a full recovery and joining pre-season at the same pace as his team-mates.
Diakhaby had established himself as a starter early on, then suffered an injury on matchday eight that sidelined him for two months.
He returned for a substitute outing and then a full match in the 4-1 home defeat by Celta Vigo, before a further setback ended his campaign.
The French defender joined Valencia in 2018 for 15 million euros. He has not consistently reached the level once promised, though he has been dependable.
He signed a new contract in January 2023 to 30 June 2027. Next season he must earn his place and potentially a further deal.
After last summer’s departures of Mosquera and Yarek, and Cenk leaving on loan with an option to buy, only Tárrega and Copete currently have first-team centre-back contracts. Cömert’s future is uncertain, while Unai Núñez is on loan and a transfer would need negotiating if desired.
