Real Madrid have scheduled a crucial meeting on the club’s sporting direction and the choice of their next head coach, with Raúl González and Pellegrino Matarazzo emerging as alternatives should a move for Mourinho stall, according to Radio Marca.

The report describes Pellegrino Matarazzo, the American in charge of Real Sociedad, as a modern option favoured by a trusted confidant of Florentino Pérez, with his style of play appreciated.

It also notes that Raúl González, a club great and their record appearance maker, is viewed by the most insular wing of the hierarchy as the right profile despite his opaque departure from Castilla.

However, the report added that Pérez is pursuing a single solution and that neither Matarazzo nor Raúl will take the job. It framed the ongoing search as an attempt to challenge the leaked notion of Mourinho as a sole candidate.

Mourinho, now at Benfica, continues to be linked to the Bernabéu role while Madrid weigh their options.
