Jose Mourinho may not have officially started work at Real Madrid yet, but reports suggest the Portuguese coach is already assessing areas of the squad he wants to improve.
In that regard, according to journalist Ruben Canizares, Mourinho is keeping a close watch on Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella, whose future in London is becoming increasingly uncertain ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Spanish defender is believed to be open to a new challenge, and his entourage feel a transfer could be completed for a fee in the region of €45-50 million.
The journalist mentions that any figure significantly above that valuation is understood to be unrealistic from their perspective.

In fact, as reported before, Real Madrid are among the sides monitoring developments, although no final decision has been made regarding a formal approach.
At the same time, Barcelona are also said to be following the situation, although, as has often been the case in recent windows, their ability to move depends heavily on internal movement and financial flexibility.
Back to Real Madrid, on paper, they already have multiple options available, but that does not necessarily satisfy Mourinho.
As reported before, Mourinho is not fully convinced by Alvaro Carreras, who arrived last summer with high expectations.

While the player certainly remains part of the squad, the incoming manager sees room for improvement in that area of the pitch, which has naturally led to interest in more experienced alternatives.
If Mourinho is indeed searching for additional competition at left-back, Cucurella’s profile makes plenty of sense, but the deal will not be straightforward.
This is because Real Madrid already have three left-back options available within the team, meaning to make way for another, they will have to make room.
Simply put, even though Cucurella’s camp believe a deal should be negotiated around the €45-50 million mark, Real Madrid must decide whether strengthening the left side of defence justifies that level of investment when other areas of the squad may also require attention.
