It is slowly becoming one of the worst-kept secrets in football that Real Madrid will have to make at least one major midfield sale this summer.
New summer appointment Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing in a new Galactico midfielder who would fit his system, and at least one of the existing options will have to be sacrificed.
Eduardo Camavinga’s future at the Spanish club looks increasingly uncertain, with Jose Mourinho reportedly ready to make his position clear to the French midfielder.
According to Miguel Serrano, Mourinho will tell Camavinga that he will not have a big role in the team, a message designed to open the door for his departure this summer.
That is a major development. Camavinga has long been seen as one of Madrid’s most gifted young midfielders, but the squad is crowded and the club need sales.

The logic is ruthless but clear. Mourinho does not want a bloated squad full of players unsure about their role.
If he does not see Camavinga as central to his plan, it is better to say it early than allow the situation to drag through pre-season.
That does not mean Camavinga lacks quality. Far from it. His energy, ball-carrying, defensive coverage and versatility have made him useful in many big moments.
However, useful is not the same as essential. Mourinho appears to be drawing a line between players he sees as core pieces and players Madrid can sacrifice for squad balance.
Selling Camavinga would still carry risk. He is young, talented and has the kind of profile that could explode elsewhere if given continuity.

That said, Real Madrid are thinking about structure. Fede Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni, Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler, Bernardo Silva and others already create heavy competition in midfield.
If Enzo Fernandez or another major target remains on the agenda, someone important has to leave.
Camavinga may become that sacrifice. Once touted as the future of Madrid’s midfield, it would be a shame if it came to this with the Frenchman.
The 23-year-old will now have to decide whether to fight for a reduced role or accept that a new project may be better for his career.
It remains to be seen how things play out on this front and what the future holds for the talented Camavinga.
