Mourinho’s assertion that he has had no contact with Real Madrid has been challenged in Spain, with AS reporting he has already spoken directly to the club. The Benfica manager made the claim at his pre-Estoril news conference.

The report adds that he has reached an agreement with Real Madrid and that talks between the parties have been ongoing for about three weeks.

It further states he has been kept informed about internal matters at the club, including developments involving Tchouaméni and Valverde.

Mourinho was also said to be taken aback by Mbappé’s recent stance following his comments about Álvaro Arbeloa.

Those claims coincide with wider rumours that a deal is done and only formalisation is awaited. If that scenario materialises, the Estoril match could be Mourinho’s final game in charge of Benfica.
