José Mourinho has set five conditions for Florentino Pérez in a 30-minute video call about a possible Real Madrid return. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, with Jürgen Klopp ruled out as too interventionist, Pérez moved to his second option to replace Álvaro Arbeloa.

First, he wants a two-season deal to June 2028. Pérez is not seen as resistant, having already given Xabi Alonso three years despite misgivings.

Second, Madrid must appoint a club spokesperson. Mourinho intends to speak only as head coach and avoid non-football disputes.

Third, he demands full sporting autonomy, with executives kept away from the dressing room. The line is simple, Pérez runs the club, the coach runs the dressing room.

Fourth, he will not work with fitness coach Antonio Pintus and wants a direct line to Pérez with no intermediaries. He does not want presidential confidants embedded around him, a stance that could also extend to Álvaro Arbeloa. This is viewed as the hardest point given Pérez’s trust in Pintus.

Fifth, he wants players free to seek second opinions on injuries, plus direct dialogue with club doctors in joint meetings he attends.

The next move is Madrid’s. Mourinho will wait for Rui Costa and Benfica until 24 May, but could trigger his exit clause if he agrees terms sooner. Madrid have only sounded out Mauricio Pochettino, the United States coach who would be free after the World Cup, while many others have been offered.
