Muharemovic deal reshapes Leeds defence amid John Stones interest | OneFootball

Bosnia and Herzegovina international Tarik Muharemovic has joined Leeds United for £34m on a five-year deal from Sassuolo, becoming the club’s second most expensive signing and reshaping their defence after Pascal Struijk’s £20m move to Brighton.

According to the BBC, Leeds had shown interest in England international John Stones, now a free agent after his contract at the Etihad expired this summer.

It is understood Leeds explored a move towards the end of last season, though his wages were likely to be a stumbling block.

Muharemovic is set to compete alongside Joe Rodon and Jaka Bijol for what could be the first-choice back three if Daniel Farke continues with the system that worked in the second half of last season.

James Justin and Sebastiaan Bornauw offer further cover at centre-back, while captain Ethan Ampadu can drop into the heart of defence if required.

With Muharemovic in, the defensive picture at Elland Road has shifted and it would be a surprise if the club added another centre-back this summer.
