Even months after Jamal Musiala’s serious injury, Uli Hoeneß is still deeply frustrated. The honorary president of FC Bayern has once again found clear words – and is not sparing in his criticism of PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma

The trigger was the scene from the quarter-final of the Club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain, in which Musiala suffered a fractured fibula in a collision with the Italian international goalkeeper – an action that still haunts Hoeneß to this day

„When I saw it at the time, this, in my opinion, brutal foul by Donnarumma…“, Hoeneß explained in the podcast „Auf eine weiß-blaue Tasse“

The long-time Bayern boss is particularly clear when assessing the duel: „He can’t say he didn’t mean to do that. It was complete madness to go in like that on the edge of the penalty area.“

For Hoeneß, one thing is clear: the action was avoidable – and had serious consequences for one of the record champions‘ most important players

Complicated injury with consequences

At the same time, Hoeneß provided rare insights into the medical details of the injury. According to him, it was not „just“ a classic fracture. „The joint popped out of the socket,“ he explained. The joint had to be reset on the pitch by team doctor Dr. Hahne – a delicate moment that may have caused additional damage

The cartilage in particular appears to have been affected. „You just have to hope that it recovers and no pain remains,“ said Hoeneß

The consequences are still visible today. Musiala is fighting his way back step by step after his comeback in January and is currently mostly used as a wild card

„It was one of the most serious injuries you can have,“ Hoeneß emphasized, also explaining why the 23-year-old is not yet back to 100 percent

World Cup debate continues

At the same time, the situation is also causing discussion with regard to the upcoming World Cup. While Oliver Kahn recently brought a voluntary withdrawal into play, both FC Bayern and Musiala himself reject this idea

Nevertheless, the figures show that with four goals and four assists in 15 competitive matches, the attacking star is already an important factor again – even if his path back to absolute world class is not yet complete

For Hoeneß, one thing above all remains: the force of the moment and the consequences for an exceptional player. The scene with Donnarumma is far from over for him – and shows how thin the line can be between success and setback in top-class soccer.
