The Chelsea legend has been an inspired appointment for the Sky Blues, since he was named as Mark Robins’ successor back in November 2024.

Robins has already cemented his legacy at Coventry, so the decision to sack him was controversial, but Lampard has made real progress, with the club sealing promotion in his first full season after play-off heartbreak 12 months ago.

As we know, it has been a remarkable journey for Coventry since they were last in the Premier League, which was when they were relegated in 2001.

Since then, they have gone down, and back up, the Football League, with home games played in Northampton and Birmingham, trips to Wembley and many highs and lows in that period.

So, all connected to the club will be delighted they have returned to the top flight of English football, and many former players and staff have got involved in wishing Lampard and his team well.

The latest of those is Mustapha Hadji, with the ex-Moroccan international having made over 60 appearances for the club after joining from Deportivo in 1999.

Even though he was part of the side that were relegated in the 2000/01 campaign, Hadji is fondly remembered for the way he played at Highfield Road, and fans will hope to sign players of that ilk once again, now they are back mixing it with the elite.

And, taking to Instagram, Hadji revealed his delight at Coventry’s promotion, as he shared an emotional message with fans.

A club that welcomed me like family and gave me unforgettable memories. Congratulations to the players, staff, management and fans of Coventry City FC on this fantastic and well deserved promotion to the Premier League.”

Coventry City will hope to make an impact in the Premier League

After 25 years away, this is a big moment for Coventry, and it’s right that Lampard, the players and fans are all enjoying the moment, with the Sky Blues chief also recognised as Manager of the Year as well.

It has been a remarkable season, and the fact they’re going up with no parachute payments is a fine achievement in this day and age, so Lampard and the recruitment team deserve all the praise that has come their way, because they have made plenty of smart decisions.

Now, though, they recognise that the hard work continues, and the challenge will be to establish Coventry back in the Premier League, which is going to be a tough task, but it’s one that they will feel is possible.

A real positive is that they will go into the new season with real momentum, and the CBS Arena will be rocking, especially in the first few months of the campaign, so it’s an exciting time to be a Coventry supporter, and you can be sure that Hadji will be keeping an eye on his former team as they look to make their mark in the Premier League once again.
