FC Barcelona are fortunate enough to have Joan Garcia defending their goal right now. The Spaniard has been sensational for the Catalan giants so far this season, and he has proven his quality in every game.

However, that does raise questions about the involvement of Wojciech Szczesny as well. After having spent the second half of last season as Barça’s first-choice goalkeeper, his role this season seems to be much less prominent.

Yet, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, the Polish goalkeeper remains fully aware of his role this season:

“I’m a substitute and, barring surprises, I will remain so. My job this season is to prepare Joan García as best as possible for the matches.”

Moreover, he had huge praise for the 24-year-old summer arrival who recently put on a great display against Newcastle United, and he is happy to play as the back-up option for the goalkeeper:

“I think he’s a goalkeeper with incredible potential, who is already among the best in Europe physically. I’m very proud to play this role, since I was prepared for it when I signed my new contract.”

In fact, the 35-year-old veteran is looking forward to helping out Garcia in any way he can to be better prepared for his challenges up ahead:

“And I’m not disappointed. Joan lacks experience at the very highest level, and that’s something he needs to consolidate. I’ll try to help him maintain a consistent level throughout the season.”

Ultimately, however, Szczesny does hope that he can contribute and help out the Spaniard across this ongoing season:

“It’s not easy to play every three days under such pressure. That’s something he must learn. I hope I can contribute to his success.”

This kind of partnership and readiness to help other teammates is simply great for Barcelona. It is through such acts of sacrifice and commitment that a team can create a strong bond and perform well on the pitch, and Hansi Flick’s locker room seems to have just that.
