Rubén Botta, a priority target who slipped from Colón’s grasp in the last window, is now understood to be close to joining Nacional. According to Radiogol.com, Uruguayan reports say the deal could be completed soon for the Clausura.
Colón, led by Ezequiel Medrán, had identified the attacking midfielder as the player to tilt matches in the final third, yet talks never progressed and the club moved on.
Botta terminated his contract with Defensa y Justicia, leaving him a free agent and attracting interest from several teams. Negotiations with Nacional gathered pace as alternative midfield options in Montevideo cooled.
During Colón’s pursuit, those around the player indicated he preferred to remain in Buenos Aires because his family were not planning to move, citing their children’s education. That stance effectively ended any immediate return to Colón.
A switch to Uruguay would alter that picture. If the transfer is finalised, Colón supporters are likely to revisit that reasoning only weeks after their approach was declined.
At Colón, Botta was viewed as an ideal fit given his previous spell, leadership and quality. The move stalled at an early stage and other signings filled the squad. Now Nacional are pushing for the 36-year-old, and the story has resurfaced in Santa Fe.
