Having fought his way back from a long-term injury, Kai Havertz made his first appearance for Germany since November 2024, starting in Friday’s 4-3 friendly win over Switzerland.
Playing up front, Havertz didn’t score, but Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann was pleased with what he saw from the 26-year-old Arsenal forward, who he believes has a similar top level to Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry.
“He played very well, very committed, just lacked a bit of luck. He played very much for the team and created six or seven very dangerous situations,” Nagelsmann said, reflecting on Havertz’s performance against Switzerland.
“If he reaches peak fitness, he’s on the same level for us as Flo, Jamal Musiala, or Serge Gnabry – a game-changer.”
Havertz will have another chance to get on the scoresheet when Germany face Ghana in a friendly on Monday.
