The Ligue 1 season finale between Nantes and Toulouse was abandoned on Sunday night after a pitch invasion at La Beaujoire. According to L'Équipe, officials confirmed the match would not resume.
Supporters entered the field amid pyrotechnics and thrown objects, prompting players and officials to return to the dressing rooms. Nearly 40 minutes later, the prefect of Loire-Atlantique opted to end the game on safety grounds.
At 22:00, following a crisis meeting involving the prefect, a police representative and both clubs, LFP delegate Olivier Chovaux and referee Stéphanie Frappart announced the decision at a press conference.
Sections of the Nantes ultras greeted the news with cheers. The stadium was then evacuated after further smoke bombs were launched.
Sports minister Marina Ferrari condemned the violence as unacceptable, saying it had no place in sport or in the Republic. She voiced support for the players and peaceful supporters, praised the swift work of stewards and police, and said those responsible must be identified and face the toughest sanctions.
