Napoli Adjusting Their Strategy with Conte Staying

Napoli had been working on signing Jonathan David before Antonio Conte made his decision. They momentarily paused their pursuit once the gaffer chose to stay put. They’ll listen to his requests and might add somebody more similar to Romelu Lukaku now, like Ange-Yoan Bonny, who’s being pursued especially by Inter, or Lorenzo Lucca, who’s also on Milan and Roma radar, Alfredo Pedullà informs.

Rather than on a top-tier center-forward, the Partenopei might focus on the wings. Per Corriere dello Sport, they are plotting to acquire eight players in the summer. The other elite options for the no.9 role are Moise Kean, who’ll have a €52M release clause in the first two weeks of July, and Viktor Gyokeres, who’s worth about €100M and has a lot of fans in the Premier League.

Conte wants to fortify the defense first and foremost, and Napoli are pursuing Sam Beukema and Federico Gatti. The latter is a more attainable target, but it’ll depend on the Juventus coach. Bologna aim to keep their star.

The Azzurri will make another attempt for Davide Frattesi. He had a skirmish with Simone Inzaghi because he didn’t play in the Champions League final.

David makes more sense as Lukaku’s partner than as a deputy. The coach is malleable, but they seem keen on continuing with 4-3-3. Granted that he’s a free agent, although not cheap, it’d be rich to have two strikers of that caliber alternating, since they have a lot of other needs. Perhaps the management envisioned such a pair in Massimiliano Allegri’s 3-5-2. Another superb defender and a winger are a must, while the midfield depends on Frank Anguissa and Stanislav Lobotka’s future.
