Napoli have deemed deals for Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez and Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson ‘unfeasible’ despite talks this summer.

Nunez had been Napoli’s top target to strengthen at centre-forward, as the Italian champions prepare to sell Victor Osimhen. However, Liverpool’s asking price in the region of €70m (£60.7m) has been viewed as too expensive.

Antonio Conte’s side have now informed Liverpool that a potential deal is off with the club turning their attention to Udinese striker Lorenzo Lucca. A full agreement has already been reached to sign the Italy international from their Serie A rivals.

Interest in Nunez remains high, with several sides in the Saudi Pro League interested in signing the Uruguay international. Liverpool rejected bids for Nunez in January but are open to his sale if their asking price is met. Al-Hilal are preparing an approach in their search to sign a marquee forward this summer. Napoli, however, are no longer in the running.

Conte is also keen to sign a new goalkeeper this summer and Napoli expressed interest in signing Ederson from Manchester City.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that initial talks took place between the clubs last week but no progress was made.

Napoli had hoped to reunite the Brazil international with former City teammate Kevin De Bruyne, who moved to Naples from the Etihad earlier this summer.

However, Napoli will now focus on alternatives in their search for a new shot-stopper.
