Napoli have given up in the club’s pursuit of Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, opening the door for either Juventus or Fenerbahce to seal a deal.
The Italian champions had expressed interest in signing Sancho from Manchester United, which the winger available for a fee of €25m (£21.3m).
Sancho had been open to the move to Naples. However, the player’s wage demands have provided a stumbling block to a move to Serie A. Italian journalist Luca Marchetti has now confirmed that Napoli have ‘given up’ in their pursuit of the 25-year-old. Antonio Conte’s side will now turn their attention to new targets.
That decision has opened up the door for Fenerbahce. Reports in Turkey claim the Istanbul outfit are pushing to sign Sancho. Jose Mourinho wants to bring Sancho to the The Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium as part of an ambitious recruitment drive this summer.
Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu is reporting that Fenerbahce are pursuing a deal and, crucially, are prepared to pay the asking price and salary demands of the 23-cap England international.
However, Fenerbahce face competition for Sancho from Juventus. The Turkish side hope their willingness to meet the player’s demands can persuade him to move to the Süper Lig. Juventus are expected to hold further talks with Sancho in the coming days.
Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea. He scored five goals and added 10 assists in all competitions, helping the West Londoners to Europa Conference League success. However, Chelsea opted out of their obligation to sign Sancho permanently – paying a compensation fee of £5m – after failing to reach an agreement on personal terms.
