Ezequiel Lavezzi has backed Massimiliano Allegri to succeed at Napoli, insisting the incoming coach has the credentials to elevate a club that has already established itself as one of Italian football’s dominant forces over the past two seasons.
The former Napoli and Argentina forward spoke ahead of the Benito Stirpe Live The Dream event, where he was asked about the club’s decision to appoint Allegri as Antonio Conte’s successor.
His endorsement carries genuine weight, Lavezzi played for Napoli between 2007 and 2012, scoring 83 goals and becoming one of the most beloved figures in the club’s modern history before moving to PSG.

“I think Napoli already have a winning cycle,” Lavezzi said, with quotes via TuttoMercatoWeb.
“Last year they won the Scudetto, this year they finished second. If they bring in Allegri, he will certainly be able to take the team to an even higher level. He has already won championships in the past and I hope he can do so at Napoli too.”
The comments reflect a broader optimism around the Allegri appointment at the Maradona, where supporters are hoping the six-time Serie A title winner can build on the foundations Conte established over his two-year tenure.
Allegri arrives with an impressive pedigree, five consecutive Scudetti with Juventus between 2015 and 2019, and a point to prove after his difficult final season at Milan ended in Champions League failure.
Lavezzi also touched on Argentina’s World Cup prospects, expressing quiet confidence without overstating their chances. “I don’t know if they are the favourites for this World Cup, but they are always Argentina and there is great faith in the current national team,” he said.
