Napoli are pushing to sign Darwin Nunez from Liverpool with further talks scheduled with the player’s representatives this week.

The Italian champions are keen on a deal to sign Nunez, who is expected to leave Liverpool after struggling for a starting role last season.

Napoli have been working on a potential transfer for several weeks as the Serie A side look to beat competition from the Saudi Pro League to the forward.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a new round of talks are scheduled this week as Napoli look to reach an agreement with the player. Antonio Conte wants to bolster his attacking options as Napoli prepare to return to the Champions League next season.

Victor Osimhen is set to leave the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium after returning from his loan spell at Galatasaray and Napoli want to reinvest those funds into a new winger and centre-forward.

Nunez started just eight times in the Premier League last season and has struggled for consistency at Anfield.

The Uruguayan joined Liverpool from Benfica for an initial fee of £64m in 2022 but has failed to convince.

Despite his erratic form, Liverpool value Nunez at around €70m (£59m). The Premier League champions believe a record of 25 goals and 13 assists from 49 starts in all competitions justifies that valuation.

Saudi side Al-Nassr saw a bid rejected in January, while divisional rivals Al-Hilal have expressed interest. Atletico Madrid are also understood to be admirers of Nunez, with the Spanish side seeking another forward as Ángel Correa nears a move to Mexico’s Tigres.
