Napoli have made Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka their top winter transfer target in midfield, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

With Kevin De Bruyne, Billy Gilmour and Frank Anguissa sidelined by injuries, Napoli are short of options in the centre of the pitch heading into the second half of the campaign.

Although Anguissa may return sooner than expected, the Partenopei still urgently need reinforcements to sustain their Scudetto challenge.

Goretzka is the leading candidate. The box-to-box midfielder would add physicality alongside Stanislav Lobotka in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation.

His contract expires in June, but Bayern are reluctant to sell mid-season despite his limited starts this term.

Napoli are considering alternatives, including Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo. He has been previously linked with a move to Naples and is likely to leave Old Trafford.

Other options are West Ham’s Soungoutou Magassa and Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini. However, a move for the former seems unlikely, given that he only moved to the London Stadium last summer.

Napoli sit third in the Serie A table after 15 matches with 31 points, one behind AC Milan in second and two adrift of leaders Inter Milan.

The reigning Serie A champions recently beat Bologna in the Italian Super Cup final. Focus now shifts to Sunday’s league match against newly promoted Cremonese.
